The Broken Wall

The Broken Wall (TBW) started as a God-given dream to Carrie (Bailey) Keebaugh, in the Spring of 2000.  In 2000-2006 that dream began to take shape.  She began to call it The Center.  She envisioned teenagers coming from all over to a centralized place; they were hanging out and being teenagers, while being given help, hope, and love to meet spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical needs.  It wasn't until 2005 she knew it was to be in York, PA.

In 2007, the start up board of directors was formed.  The board included Carrie, Richard, Darlene, Steve and Linda.  They did all the steps that were needed to get The Center formed.  In December 2007, they hit a wall.  When meeting with their attorney, John Herrold, they were informed that the name "The Center" was already taken.  At the next board meeting they discussed possible names.  When Darlene suggested The Broken Wall - it fit!  The name stands for breaking walls that are built around teens, helping to re-build life walls, and breaking denominational walls. 

With various moves in and out of buildings and spaces (both rented and borrowed) the programs started to take shape.  In 2009, they held their first Fall Festival.  Over the next few years Tutoring, Counseling, CLIFF Youth group, and other community and themed events were started.  It wasn't until their move in June 2012 that they were able to open the after-school center and were finally able to call comewhere home that they could offer the programs that were envisioned in 2000.

That was not our final move.  In 2014, TBW was led to move to Altoona and then then led again to move to Path Valley, PA.  We have recently partnered with a local church (Fair Ridge AG) in Shade Gap to use their facility to provide events and programs to local teenagers in both Southern Huntingdon School District and Fannett-Metal School District.  We will again be able to break down walls and rebuild lives with help, hope, and love to all 6th - 12th graders.

2018 brought with it an extended direction of The Broken Wall.  God has been directing the leadership to reach out to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The Broken Wall has some exciting things coming for persons with disabilities.  It is also stretching it's reach into Fulton County.  Stay tuned for more...

Who We Are

We are Christ-centered and are a 501C3 community, non profit with no paid staff, everyone is volunteer - so we can put funding back into the programs.  We are ran by an Executive Director and Board of Directors.
